Aaron Rai emerged victorious at the PGA Championship on Sunday, securing a three-shot win at Aronimink. Starting the final round with several decorated contenders like Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, and Xander Schauffele, Rai's journey to the title was marked by a decisive surge down the stretch.

Justin Thomas initially set the pace with a sparkling 65, but as the course toughened, Rai took over. He carded six birdies over his final 10 holes, moving into the lead at the 13th hole before sealing his win with a 70-foot birdie putt on the 17th. Rai finished with a 5-under 65, becoming the first English-born player to win the PGA Championship since Jim Barnes in 1919.

"To be here is beyond my wildest imagination," Rai said.

Rai’s final round included a 5-wood up the hill and a 40-foot eagle putt to get back into contention. His 40-yard bunker shot set up a 6-foot birdie at the 13th hole, which had earlier undone McIlroy and Schauffele. This surge placed him among the best in major championship history, similar to Cameron Smith at the 2022 British Open and Jack Nicklaus at the 1986 Masters.

Those chasing Rai, including Alex Smalley and Matti Schmid, were undone by untimely mistakes. McIlroy, who finished with a 69, struggled on the reachable par-4 13th, making bogey and reacting to a fan's "USA!" shout after his wedge into a bunker on the par- 5 16th. Rahm and Smalley tied for second, with Smalley's late charge coming too late.

The PGA Championship at Aronimink saw 22 players within four shots of the lead entering the final round, setting a record. Rai, now part of exclusive company, is widely respected among his peers despite not being a familiar name to casual fans.
