May 9, 2026 – Autonomous taxis have recently taken to the streets of Zagreb, receiving high praise from passengers who have experienced the Verne robotaxi service. Early users of Europe’s first commercial robotaxi service have consistently rated their experiences very highly, according to Verne. The company reported that approximately 90% of passengers gave the service 4 or 5 stars in the initial phase of operations.

The positive feedback comes as the company gradually expands the service, which launched tentatively in early April 2026. Verne’s current fleet consists of around 10 electric Arcfox Alpha T5 vehicles equipped with Pony.ai’s autonomous driving technology. The rides are available to a select group of approximately 300 active users registered via the Verne app. A promotional price of €1.99 per ride has generated significant interest, with the waiting list now reportedly reaching around 4,000 people.

Passengers and test riders have been impressed by the vehicles’ ability to navigate Zagreb’s typically congested and chaotic traffic, as well as its many complex intersections. According to Filip Cindrić, Verne’s head of operations, most trips are completed without any need for intervention from the safety operator who is still present during this early phase.

Users book their rides through the Verne app (with Uber integration expected soon). After the vehicle arrives, passengers unlock it via the app, fasten their seatbelts, and start the journey with a button on the rear touchscreen.

Verne is planning to gradually expand service across more areas of Zagreb and aims to transition to fully driverless operations by the end of this year. The company is already in discussions to launch the service in eleven additional cities across the EU, UK, and the Middle East.

The strong early passenger ratings are a promising sign for Verne as it works to prove that autonomous robotaxis can operate successfully in a European city.

For those interested in trying the service, it is currently operating mainly in the wider city centre and to/from Zagreb Airport. Rides are currently limited, but the growing waiting list shows high demand among Zagreb’s residents and visitors.
