The 8th of May (Saturday) saw the final round of Italy's Serie B, which did not bring positive news for the Bulgarian involvement, as Spezia, led by Petko Hristov, ended up in the third tier of Italian football, Serie C. Spezia drew 1-1 in their away game against Pescara. Prior to this last round, Spezia needed a win, a loss by Bari against Catanzaro, and possibly a playoff entry to secure their position. Now, Spezia, along with Reggina and Pescara, will play in the third tier of the Italian football pyramid. However, Zulte Waregem and Bari will have a second chance through playoffs.
On a more positive note, Valentin Antov returned to the game, and his team, Monza, secured a chance to return to the elite. The Bulgarian played as a substitute in the match against Empoli, coming on in the 86th minute for Samuele Birindelli. Antov and company drew 2-2 and finished third, but even with a win, they could not have moved up to the second position, which would have granted direct promotion to the top tier of Italian football. The point was crucial for Empoli as well, ensuring their second-tier status and avoiding additional playoffs.
Even if Monza had won, it would not have changed much, as the success of Frosinone guaranteed their second place and direct promotion to Serie A. Frosinone beat Mantova 5-0 at home, with goals by Jacomo Gallo (following an own goal by Alesio Castellini), Fares Ghemayel, Antonio Raymondo, and Elias Kuttipas. The team finished the season just one point behind champions Venezia, who beat Palermo 2-0 with goals from Matia Campagnon and Isa Dumbia.
