Belgrade has received some of Serbia's most important relics from the Patriarchal Hilandar Monastery on Mount Athos in Greece. The relics have arrived in connection with an exhibition dedicated to the 850th anniversary of Saint Sava's birth. They were met at Nikola Tesla Airport by Patriarch Porphyrius and high-ranking government officials, as reported by RTS.
The exhibition, titled "Saint Sava," will be held at the Gallery of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts from May 15 to July 19. Among the exhibited items are a mosaic icon, icons of Christ Pantocrator and the Virgin Odigitria from the 13th century, and an icon of Saints Sava and Simeon from the 17th century. Additionally, the exhibition features a replica of Tsar Alexius III Angelos' scepter and the renowned Paterica of Saint Sava.
The relics' arrival marks a significant cultural and religious event for Serbia, celebrating the legacy of Saint Sava, a revered figure in Serbian history and Orthodoxy.
This is a huge moment for Serbian culture and faith, but I can't help wondering if more could be done to preserve these relics for future generations. What do you think we should do to ensure they're not lost to time?
