The grandson of wrestling legend Georgi Markov triumphed at the European Cadet Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria, securing the European title in the classic style under 60 kg category. Markov, competing in the under-60 kg category, defeated German wrestler Cristiano Liebzeit with a score of 1:1, earning the gold medal after taking the first point.
Before this final victory, Markov recorded three more wins over representatives from the strong wrestling schools of Armenia, Russia, and Ukraine. The tournament began with a 6:4 victory against Armenian wrestler Samvel Tonoian, followed by a technical superiority over Russian wrestler Mikhail Stepanov in just 43 seconds. In the semifinals, Markov once again did not need the full four minutes, securing an 8:0 victory over Ukrainian wrestler Artem Zelobkov.
This is Markov's first major championship distinction in the classic style, and even more valuable is that he achieved it in his debut as a cadet. Last year, the talented young wrestler finished fifth in the European Championships for boys.
This is a massive win for young Markov and a tribute to his legendary grandfather's legacy. Can he keep this momentum going and reach even greater heights in his wrestling career? I'm excited to see where this young talent will take us next!
