A Humble Encounter at the Temple
Amidst the massive crowds gathered outside the Temple of Saint Sava in Belgrade, a familiar face was spotted waiting in line to venerate the Holy Belt of the Mother of God. Milan Jankovic, widely known as "Čorba," stood patiently among the faithful, displaying remarkable humility and calm despite his public profile.
When approached by journalists, the celebrity chef from Gnjilane, Kosovo and Metohija, revealed he had been waiting for seven hours. "I am very happy to be here and have this experience," Jankovic said, emphasizing his desire to share in the spiritual moment with fellow believers.
Hopes for the Serbian People
Jankovic, a professional cook, musician, and humanitarian, rose to fame through reality television but built his career on culinary arts and charity work. He is known for blending traditional Serbian cuisine with modern global trends.
Asked about his prayers, Jankovic spoke passionately about his hopes for the future. "I hope for the salvation of the Serbian people, for unity and love. I pray that God looks upon our nation and that we move forward with love," he stated. His response resonated with many, reflecting a deep sense of national and spiritual solidarity.
Historic Pilgrimage Continues
The Holy Belt, a revered relic, arrived in Belgrade on May 20 from the Vatopedi Monastery on Mount Athos in Greece. It was brought to Serbia six centuries after Serbian ruler Prince Lazar gifted it to the monastery. The relic has drawn hundreds of thousands of pilgrims since its arrival.
Due to overwhelming public interest, the display period was extended twice. Originally scheduled to leave on May 29, the Holy Belt will now remain in the capital until June 6. It will be solemnly returned to Mount Athos after a liturgy led by Patriarch Porfirije.
Media crews captured the historic scenes from both ground level and via drone, documenting the emotional atmosphere. Patriarch Porfirije noted that the sheer number of visitors confirms the people's century-old devotion to the Svetosavski and Kosovski covenants, which he described as the realization of the New Testament in the lives of Orthodox Serbs.
Čorba je stvarno dobar čovek, videti ga kako čeka 7 sati bez žurbe je impresivno. nadam se da će sve ovo doneti mir i slogu, barem u srcima ljudi...
