Thousands of faithful have gathered, standing patiently and peacefully in long queues that stretch through the portico and into surrounding streets. Their shared goal is to venerate the Holy Belt of the Theotokos, a revered Christian relic that is set to leave the Serbian capital tomorrow.

Unwavering Devotion and Peaceful Waiting

Witnesses describe lines so extensive that their ends are barely visible. Despite the multi-hour wait, the mood among the crowd remains dignified and positive. Pilgrims have arrived from across Serbia and the wider region, some in organized groups and others independently, united by a common spiritual hope. The scene stands in stark contrast to typical urban congestion, marked instead by a profound sense of community and reverence.

One pilgrim, traveling with a group from Vladičin Han in southern Serbia, expressed no fatigue, noting the exceptional unity among those waiting. "We started waiting in line at noon. The situation has been completely calm, everything is fine, and there hasn't been a single incident," she explained. "We estimate we'll enter the temple in about half an hour. What are we hoping for? Nothing but the best... for our families and our health."

Overnight Vigil and Regional Faithful

The depth of this devotion is exemplified by Stanislav from Lazarevac, who spent the entire night outside the church. "I arrived here at 1 a.m. I came for a blessing, hoping things will be better for all of us tomorrow. It doesn't feel difficult to wait this long. The atmosphere has been great, everything is okay, and there was no disorder," he said, smiling despite the long night shift.

Ratomirka, who traveled from Novi Pazar, arrived in the early hours of the morning. "I've been waiting since 5 a.m. and I am fully resolved to enter. Who knows when such an opportunity will come again in our lives? I think everyone should take this moment to bow before the Holy Belt while it is still here in Belgrade," she urged.

The event highlights the enduring spiritual significance of religious relics in the Balkans, drawing thousands to Belgrade in a display of faith that transcends regional boundaries. As the relic prepares for its departure, the crowds show no signs of thinning, underscoring the deep connection believers feel with this sacred object.
