The forward has been selected by head coach Alexander Dimitrov for the upcoming June friendlies against Montenegro and Moldova, marking a significant return to the international stage for the player.

Born in Friedberg, Bavaria, Petkov’s link to Bulgaria comes through his paternal grandfather. Despite living and playing in Germany his entire life, he made his debut for the Bulgarian national team three years ago. With no local community to practice the language with in Germany, the national team camps have become his primary classroom. "My Bulgarian is still not good enough, even though I try to communicate with my teammates in Bulgarian," Petkov admitted, showing a genuine effort to connect with his heritage.

The upcoming fixtures in Plovdiv against Montenegro and in Chisinau against Moldova serve as crucial preparation for the UEFA Nations League.
