The Historic Acropolis Rally 2026 is gearing up for a robust event with 63 entries, including international participation and the return of Jari-Matti Latvala to Greek soil.
The Sporting category of the Historic Acropolis Rally 2026 is set for one of its strongest editions in recent history. The 63 entries aren't just a large number; they signal that the event has regained its international clout and attracts drivers familiar with the Greek terrain.
From May 22 to May 24, the entries will compete in 13 Special Stages, covering 162.52 competitive kilometers with routes steeped in history. Lamia will serve as the main event hub, with the ceremonial start on Eleftherias Square and the Service Park at the Panhellenic Exhibition of Lamia.
Latvala Returns to Conquered Ground
The heaviest name on the list is Jari-Matti Latvala. The Finnish champion returns after his victory last year, this time with co-driver Tomiya Maekawa and a Toyota Celica Turbo 4WD ST185. No introductions are necessary. He won the Acropolis Rally in 2013 and remains one of the most recognizable drivers to have participated in the World Rally Championship.
However, the field is not easy for him. Ghislain de Mevius and Johan Jalet return for their third consecutive year, looking for what they missed in the past. With a Subaru Impreza 555, they return to a rally where they have shown speed but not yet the finish they desire.
Strong Greek Presence and Battle for Points
The rally also counts towards the Greek National Rally Championship with a 3x coefficient, making points highly valuable. Mario Stafylopatis and Giorgos Chatzirigas, the Greek champions for the last two years, return with their Lancia Delta Integrale, aiming for another strong performance.
The 21-year-old Achilleas Christodoulou stands out, with co-driver Konstantinos Soukouli and a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI. After a third-place finish in 2025 and a victory in the Legends category in 2024, his presence adds another layer of interest.
The program also includes the iconic "Tarzan" stage. The historical special stage makes its debut in the Historic Acropolis Rally, bringing an exciting route that rally enthusiasts know well.
This rally is shaping up to be a real showdown, with Latvala's return and the homegrown talent fighting for points. It's going to be a nail-biter, but who do you think will come out on top? Let's talk!
