Zagreb’s streets will host thousands of faithful this Saturday as the city prepares for the 8th Antunovski Youth Walk. Organized by Fr Stjepan Brčina alongside the Center for the Promotion of Spiritual Vocations OFMConv, the event is a spiritual pilgrimage honoring Anthony of Padua. The walk serves as a testament to faith, community, and hope, drawing participants from across Croatia and beyond.
Route and Schedule
The pilgrimage begins in the Dubrava district, marking a logistical shift from previous years. Gatherings start at noon, with the central Mass held at 14:00 in front of the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Dubrava. At 15:30, the procession moves toward Ban Jelačić Square, arriving around 17:00. There, participants will engage in a program featuring songs, prayers, conversations, and evangelization.
The journey concludes at the Basilica of St Anthony of Padua, with pilgrims expected to arrive by 19:30. The evening will feature Eucharistic adoration, veneration of St Anthony’s relics, and a thanksgiving celebration. Last year, approximately 20,000 participants joined the walk, and organizers anticipate a record turnout this year.
Logistics and New Features
The decision to start in Dubrava rather than Sesvetska Sela was driven by safety and organizational concerns. Growing numbers of pilgrims, combined with ongoing roadworks in the city, made securing traffic-free routes increasingly difficult. The new starting point allows for better crowd management and safer movement.
A mobile application has also been introduced, providing all necessary information for attendees. This year’s theme song, "If You Have God, You Have Everything," was written by Josipa and Ana Gvozdanić, with music and arrangement by Matej Fridl. The song aims to convey the essence of faith in a simple yet powerful way.
The Antunovski Youth Walk continues to grow, reflecting a strong desire among young people and families for communal spiritual experiences. With improved logistics and a clear route, this year’s event promises to be one of the largest yet.
