A Global Gathering at Okmeydanı

The 14th International Conquest Cup has once again transformed Okmeydanı in Istanbul into a vibrant hub of international sportsmanship. Under the patronage of the Turkish Presidency, the five-day tournament brought together young archers from 51 countries across five continents. The event serves as a bridge between modern athletic competition and historical tradition, featuring both modern and traditional archery disciplines.

The opening ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, and World Ethnosport Union President Necmeddin Bilal Erdoğan. Also present were AK Party Istanbul Provincial Chairman Abdullah Özdemir and Archers Foundation President Hüseyin Topbaş, marking the significance of the gathering in the national sports calendar.

Preserving Heritage Through Sport

During the opening address, Minister Ersoy stressed that the Conquest Cup is far more than a sporting event. He described it as a vital platform for transmitting the "spirit of conquest," historical awareness, and cultural legacy to future generations. Ersoy highlighted that young people who understand their culture, know their history, and grow up with civilizational values are the strongest guarantee for the "Century of Turkey" vision.

"Here today, archery is not just a sport; it is a living value that carries the conquest spirit, civilizational vision, and deep-rooted cultural heritage of our ancestors who closed one era and opened another," Ersoy stated. He drew parallels between the current gathering and the historical significance of Mehmed the Conqueror, noting how young age and skill changed the course of history.

The World’s Largest Civilian Archery Event

Ersoy noted that the emphasis on archery by Mehmed the Conqueror laid the foundation for a strong tradition, with Okmeydanı standing as one of its most important symbols. He praised the Archers Foundation for carefully carrying this historical legacy into the future, noting that students at the Archers Tekke continue to live this same spirit today.

Since its inception, the foundation has worked to preserve traditional sports, pass them to younger generations, and promote them internationally. Ersoy declared that the Conquest Cup has now become the world's largest civilian archery organization, cementing its status on the global stage while keeping local traditions alive.
