After Universitatea Craiova completed their home matches for the season, work began at the Ion Oblemenco stadium to remove the playing surface. Despite the absence of this year’s IntenCity music festival, the field at the Bănie arena is being replaced under a contract between the Craiova municipality and a specialized firm.

The turf from the Bănie arena has already been moved to the street Râul in the city, where the Ion Oblemenco stadium is located. Work is underway to prepare new grass sections. Although many supporters would have liked to keep a piece of the field as a memento of the team's outstanding performance, this was not an option this time. During the demolition of the old Ion Oblemenco arena, pieces of the grass were given to local personalities, former players, and club leaders.

Fan Reactions

Fans expressed their disappointment at not being able to take a piece of the historic grass. Some fans have even tattooed the championship trophy, while others left the stadium with a small piece from the two goalposts after the match where Universitatea Craiova defeated U Cluj 5-0.

Honors and Celebrations

The Craiova municipality has decided to award the players and coach Filipe Coelho with the title of Honorary Citizens of the City. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 23, at the City Hall. Universitatea Craiova won the much-desired title, and fans celebrated for a long time in various ways, especially since it was followed by the victory of the ninth Romanian Cup.

In addition to the celebration itself, the Oltenian supporters displayed a symbolic message at the Sineasca cemetery: “Now we feel what you experienced,” for the generations that lived through the glory days of the team. Unfortunately, fans did not have the opportunity to purchase special "Romanian Champions 2026" jerseys, which the club did not make available for sale during the city center event attended by tens of thousands of people.

Furthermore, the mobile store did not have official game jerseys in popular sizes, leaving fans extremely disappointed with how the club handled this aspect.
