Viki Tomova Advances to Second Round of French Open Qualifiers
In the second round of the qualifiers, 31-year-old Tomova will face 22-year-old Polina Kudermetova, who was born in Moscow but has been competing for Uzbekistan since December last year. The match will be held on Court No. 4, which will begin at 11:00 AM local time.
Kudermetova currently holds the 125th position in the WTA rankings, with her highest-ever ranking being 54th on April 14, 2025. Her career highlight to date was reaching the final of the WTA 500 in Brisbane (Australia) last season, where she even took a set from the world No. 1, Aryna Sabalenka, with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 2-6. Kudermetova advanced from the qualifiers and secured victories over two top-ranked players in the main draw, Ludmila Samsonova and Daria Kasatkina. This year, she also reached the finals of WTA 125 tournaments in Canberra (Australia) and Oeiras (Portugal).
The upcoming match will be the second in their head-to-head rivalry. In their first encounter, Kudermetova defeated Tomova 6-4, 6-1 in the last round of the qualifiers of the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan (China).
