Van Dijk: Salah and Robertson Indispensable to Liverpool
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has spoken about the irreplaceable contributions of Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson to the club. With nine seasons under their belts, the duo will play their final home game at Anfield this week. The club has announced that a special ceremony will be held in their honor during the match against Brentford. The Kop will pay tribute to Salah, while Sir Kenny Dalglish will present a token of appreciation to Robertson.
"It's incredibly difficult to summarize what they've done for the club in a positive sense. They mean so much to the club, to me personally, and to all the successes we've achieved over the years. Considering the kind of people they are, I think it will be very hard to replace them. It will be tough to move forward without them, but that's life. It was fantastic to work with and play alongside them. I will miss them 100%."
"Regarding Robertson, his talent, his performance on the field, his assists, his work ethic - it's the complete package that modern left-backs can possess. Off the field, he is always ready for fun, always sets the standard in training and games, and is simply a great person. He is perhaps the best left-back in the Premier League over the last decade and one of the best in Liverpool's history."
"Salah's achievements are something remarkable. Everyone sees the hard work he puts in to be available for every game and to maintain the highest level he aims for. The years he has played together with Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané, if you are playing from behind, there are moments when you just watch and enjoy him. In terms of his contributions, in terms of goals and assists, he is incredible, and I was truly grateful and happy to be part of that."
"He sets the right example for everyone in terms of the work he does off the field to prepare. Salah is not very talkative, but he is a leader who sets an example. These are the things I will miss 100%."
"But one day we will sit and reflect on the incredible time we had together, the absolute peaks, but also the incredible lows we had to go through together. We really didn't have time to reflect on everything. But overall, I will miss them. I wish them all the best, I wish their families all the best. I want the best for all of them, just as I wanted the best for everyone who left before them. One day when we gather, we will sit and enjoy that, we will talk about all the beautiful moments."
Van Dijk's words make it clear how crucial Salah and Robertson have been to Liverpool's success. It's hard to imagine the club without them, but it's the end of an era. What will the future hold for Liverpool?
