Universitatea Craiova, the reigning Romanian champions, has confirmed the departure of Vasile Mogoș this summer, marking the first major loss in their squad for the upcoming season. Mogoș, a right-back, remains a free agent and is planning to move to Italy where his family is settled. The 29-year-old was part of the Romanian squad at EURO 2024 and joined Craiova as an experienced player, bringing significant value to the team.
The Departure and Future Planning
Sorin Cârțu, the club's official, has announced that Mogoș's departure is one of the transfers that need to be addressed in the transfer window. While the current squad is valuable, Cârțu emphasized the need to strengthen the team to better handle the upcoming season. The club is aiming for a European campaign, which changes how the squad should be built. Alongside Mogoș, Craiova has also parted ways with Houri, and Ștefan Baiaram announced his transfer after winning the title.
Defensive Reinforcements
Cârțu also addressed the need for defensive reinforcements, citing the example of Coubiș, a player he enjoyed but who did not come to Craiova. "We've lost Mogoș from defense, and Houri has left the midfield. We need to strengthen this area. Bringing in four or five players isn't bad for the team; otherwise, you get caught up in the league," Cârțu stated. "The shareholders' target is international, as what happened last year was unexpected. I like many players."
Marius Șumudică recently confirmed that Mihai Rotaru had received an offer of around 7 million euros from Başakşehir for Baiaram's transfer.
This is a massive loss for Craiova, especially after Baiaram. Can they bounce back and still challenge for the title? Let's see how they manage the transfer window.
