Unai Emery, the coach of Aston Villa, emphasized the players' commitment and seriousness after winning the Europa League trophy. The final was held in Istanbul at "Beşiktaş Park" where Aston Villa triumphed over Freiburg with a 3:0 victory.
Emery's Five Europa League Titles
This is Emery's fifth Europa League title, following three previous victories with Sevilla (in 2014, 2015, and 2016) and one with Villarreal in 2021. "Every time I've succeeded in this competition, I've had excellent players. I'm very thankful to the players, as they have followed our ambitions and been protagonists on the field. That's why I don't feel like a king in this competition. I feel incredibly grateful; together, we are kings," Emery stated.
Aston Villa's Historical Milestone
This victory marks Aston Villa's first major European trophy since 1982 when they won the European Cup. "After winning the Champions Cup in 1982, this was something the club was missing—fanfare and a trophy. Winning this trophy makes us so happy, but we won't stop here," Emery emphasized.
Captain John McGinn expressed his pride, stating, "With this coach at the helm, anything is possible... The pride I felt at a 3:0 lead with ten minutes to go, I can't put into words." Aston Villa still has one more match before the end of the season, a home game against Manchester City in the last round of the Premier League.
Unai Emery just proved why he's the master of the Europa League! But can Aston Villa sustain this success in the Premier League? Only time will tell.
