Traditional Duathlon Tournament for Pleven Cup to Take Place on May 24

The annual duathlon tournament for the Pleven Cup, organized by the Triathlon Sports Club "Tri Play" and Pleven Municipality, will take place on May 24 in the Kyleka Park. The event was announced by the municipal administration's press center.

Details and Changes

The tournament will feature a separate ranking for athletes using MTB bicycles for both men and women for the fourth consecutive year. For the third year, there will be an AGE GROUPS category, comprising two athletes — a runner and a cyclist — regardless of gender and the type of bicycle used. They will start with the fourth, fifth, and sixth groups. Additionally, for the third year, there will be separate races for athletes who are members of sports clubs. Before the race, participants can do a familiarization lap.

The opening ceremony will begin at 9:20 AM, and the start of the fourth, fifth, and sixth groups, along with the AGE GROUPS category, will be at 9:30 AM. The award ceremony for the winners is scheduled for 3:30 PM.

Ages and Distances

Participants will be divided into the following age groups: "Candies" — born in 2018 and younger; group zero — born in 2016-2017; first group — 2014-2015; second group — 2012-2013; third group — 2010-2011; fourth group — 2007-2009; fifth group — 1987-2006; sixth group — Masters — 1986 and older.

The small club race includes participants from the first three groups, while the large club race includes those from the third to sixth groups. The distance for "Candies" is 300 meters running, 2 kilometers cycling, and 300 meters running. For groups zero and one, it is 1 kilometer running, 5 kilometers cycling, and 500 meters running. For groups two and three, it is 2 kilometers running and 10 kilometers cycling. For the higher groups and AGE GROUPS, the distance is 5 kilometers running, 20 kilometers cycling, and 2.5 kilometers running. For the club race, the distances are 1 kilometer running, 5 kilometers cycling, and 1 kilometer running.

The organizer of the tournament, trainer, and president of the Triathlon Sports Club "Tri Play," Ivo Ilyev, clarified that 152 individuals and seven teams have registered so far, with the possibility for more to join. Medals will be awarded for participation and achievements in each group, and there will be material prizes from sponsors. The Pleven Cup will be awarded to the best-performing athlete, regardless of whether they are a club member or not.

Ilyev noted that the club has been organizing duathlon events since 2005. He also mentioned that the tournament will proceed even if the weather is poor. During the race, the movement of vehicles in the Kyleka Park area, from the Kyleka Hotel to the Totleben Dam, will be stopped.

The event is part of the municipality's sports calendar.
