Oklahoma City Thunder evened the NBA Playoffs Western Conference Finals series against San Antonio Spurs with a dominant 122-113 win in the second game. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the charge with 30 points and nine assists, guiding his team to the victory. Alex Caruso added 17 points and five assists, while Chet Holmgren contributed 13 points. Jared McCain and Cason Wallace each scored 12 points off the bench.
Key Contributions from the Bench
The Thunder's victory was largely due to their superior bench performance, which outscored the Spurs' reserves 57-25. Oklahoma City also dominated in second-chance points, 27-10. Isaiah Hartenstein, who barely played in the first game, recorded 10 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. This win improved the Thunder's record to 14-5 in games following a loss and marked their second victory in seven matchups against the Spurs this season.
Injury Concerns on Both Sides
The win came at a cost for the Thunder, as they lost Jalena Williams to a left leg strain in the first half, a recurring issue that has already sidelined him for six games in this playoff run. The Spurs also faced injuries, playing without All-Star guard De'Aaron Fox due to a foot injury, and Dylan Harper, a starter, also left the game in the third quarter.
Uncertain Finish
The Spurs trailed by 11 points at halftime and eight points heading into the final quarter. Tricom Harrison and Barnes brought San Antonio within 99-97 nine minutes before the end, but Thunder responded with a crucial 11-0 run over the next two and a half minutes. Wembanyama narrowed the gap to 118-113 with a minute and 25 seconds remaining, but Gilgeous-Alexander sealed the win with his final basket. The series now moves to San Antonio for the third game on Friday.
