Tadici Leads Zalău to Victory
The last game of the Flowers League between SCM Universitatea Craiova and HC Zalău was supposed to be a low-stakes match with no bearing on the final standings. The hosts, Craiova, wanted a decent send-off after a modest season, while Zalău, composed of mostly young, local players, saw it as a final test before the relegation play-offs.
Despite the expectations, Zalău, led by coach Gheorghe Tadici, managed a 27-24 win over Craiova in the Polivalenta Bănie arena. The victory ended Craiova's season in ninth place, while Zalău will face relegation play-offs.
Controversy and Criticism
The game saw its share of controversy, particularly from Zalău's controversial coach, Tadici. He criticized the two referees throughout the match and was eventually ejected during the second half. After the game, Tadici continued his tirade, accusing the referees of favoring the opposition and contributing to the decline of Romanian handball.
“This game meant nothing for us or Craiova. I thought that in such a low-stakes game, the referees would be fair. But these women, or at least one of them, acted in an unacceptable way! We played with seven local girls, while Craiova had only one Romanian player, Mihart, the rest were foreigners. The support was for the home team, and it was impossible to resist. They gave us a red card, too… These women are probably bribed,” Tadici said.
The coach of the home team, Costică Buceschi, was also disappointed with his team's performance, noting their lack of attitude and strength throughout most of the match.
