Triple champion Iga Świątek is set to compete in the final of the WTA 1000 clay court tournament in Rome and continue her quest for her first title of the season.

The 24-year-old Polish player, ranked fourth, secured a convincing victory over Jessica Pegula (USA) with a score of 6-1, 6-2 in just 67 minutes on the court.

Świątek dominated the entire match, conceding only three games to her opponent. This was her first win against Pegula since November 2023 when they contested the final of a WTA tournament. Pegula managed to win only two of her 16 second-serve points, unable to compete with Świątek’s performance.

In the final in Rome, Świątek will face the winner of the match between second-ranked Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) and Elina Svitolina (Ukraine), who will be playing later that evening.

This will be her first match for a trophy this year, as Świątek has not managed to advance beyond the quarterfinals so far.
