Marius Sumudica, the former Rapid București manager, has stated that he would prefer Daniel Pancu to take over the team rather than himself returning to the club. According to recent rumors, Pancu, 48, was reportedly being considered for the position at Rapid, as reported by DigiSport. In the meantime, Costel Galca has announced his departure from the team following the failure to achieve the club's primary objective of qualifying for European cups.
Pancu has not yet decided whether he will leave CFR Cluj for Rapid, which he had previously promised to return to. Sumudica, now 55, believes that Pancu could lead Rapid to greater success. "I want Pancu to come to Rapid more than I want to return myself," Sumudica said, emphasizing his belief in Pancu's abilities.
Rapid once again finds itself without a coach at the end of the season, reminiscent of last year when Sumudică's departure followed the failure to qualify for European cups. Galca's exit marks the end of a disastrous playoff campaign.
Sumudica expressed his conviction that Pancu, a former Rapid player and coach, can bring the club to new heights. "I genuinely wish for Pancu to come to Rapid. It's the right moment for him to return, and with the support of everyone, I believe he will succeed."
Pancu, who previously coached Rapid from October 2018 to March 2020, has a strong connection with the club. As a player, he won the Romanian championship in 1999, three Romanian Cup titles (1998, 2002, 2006), and two Supercup titles (1999, 2002). He wore the Rapid shirt 154 times and scored 38 goals.
I can't believe Sumudica is passing the torch to Pancu! This is a bold move that could turn the club's fortunes around. But is it too late for Rapid to compete at the top level? Let's see if Pancu can ignite the team's passion and lead them to glory!
