Flavius Stoican led Farul to the brink of relegation to the second division after their home defeat to Metaloglobus with a 0-1 scoreline. At the end of the match, Stoican attempted to boost his players' morale through psychological tactics. Stoican took the team in five matches, with a disastrous record of two draws and three losses. Constanta will face Chindia in the survival play-offs.
Stoican failed to save Farul from the play-offs, despite needing only a point in their home match against Metaloglobus. He joked with his players, telling them not to believe themselves to be snakes, implying they are not.
Replacing Ianis Zicu, Stoican did not bring the desired shock to the team, instead leading Farul deeper into the relegation zone. Two draws and three losses have led the team to the survival play-offs with Chindia Târgoviște.
"This is the reality. I don't want us to believe we are snakes, and we are not. It is embarrassing. We had these fans who supported us throughout the match. They were shouting 'Farul, Farul, Farul, Farul' the whole time," Stoican said.
"There were crosses, headers, but in vain. We need to accept criticism to become better and stay in Liga 1. We have a fair championship. You saw how Oțelul played. We knew what kind of force we were up against. We conceded some childlike goals, but they are a good team. We caused them problems too. In the end, they were celebrating. We knew they would play good football as they moved up two places, which is important for any club financially."
Farul Constanta and Hermannstadt will face each other in the relegation play-offs. Constanta will meet Chindia Târgoviște, while Dorinel Munteanu's team will face FC Voluntari. The first leg of the play-offs will be played on May 23-24, with the second leg on May 30-31 or June 1.
Stoican's attempt at boosting morale is laughable after such a disastrous run. The fans deserve better. Is it time for a complete coaching overhaul, or will Farul just keep sinking?
