Srđan Cvijić, a political analyst, raised concerns about the negative impact on Serbia's international legitimacy following the arrest of Chief of Police for the City of Belgrade, Veselin Milić, on Wednesday. Cvijić appeared on N1 television, stating that the arrest, which is tied to multiple criminal charges, including the alleged cover-up of a brutal murder attempt, sends a message that societal lows can always get worse.

"Serbia is a country aspiring to join the European Union. Imagine what would happen in another candidate or EU member state if the chief of the capital city's police was charged with attending a mafia meeting and then being involved in a murder during that meeting, followed by the cover-up of the murder. Immediately, the police minister would have to resign, as would the director of the police force, and possibly even the director of the criminal police, depending on the structure. Everyone above him in the hierarchy would have to resign, if nothing else, due to the command and political responsibility for placing such a person in that position," he explained.
