SAN ANTONIO -- San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper is a game-time decision for Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder, due to a right adductor injury. Harper underwent an MRI on Thursday, and the results confirmed the injury, according to sources cited by ESPN's Shams Charania.

Injuries and Lineup Decisions

The rookie guard is expected to go through his pregame routine before the team decides on his playing status. Harper is listed officially as questionable for Game 3, along with veteran guard De'Aaron Fox, who is dealing with a right ankle sprain. If both guards can make their return, it would be a significant boost to a Spurs team that has been thin in the backcourt.

Second-year veteran Stephon Castle and Jordan McLaughlin are the only healthy guards for the Spurs following their loss to Oklahoma City in Game 2. Harper suffered his injury in the third quarter of Game 2, after driving to the basket for a layup that was blocked by Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Harper continued playing until he was subbed out at the 4:50 mark of the quarter, replaced by Carter Bryant.

Fox's injury, a high right ankle sprain, occurred in Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals at Minnesota. He played through pain in Games 5 and 6 of that series but missed the first two games of the conference finals. Fox has participated in pregame warmups in both instances, but the Spurs decided to hold him out, given his nine-year veteran status and his performance this postseason, where he has averaged 18.8 points, 5.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds. During the regular season, Fox averaged 18.6 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.8 rebounds.

Impact on the Spurs

Prior to sitting out of Games 1 and 2 of the West finals, Fox hadn't missed a game since March 25 and had started 72 games throughout the regular season. The absence of both Fox and Harper has put additional pressure on the Spurs' remaining guards, and their potential return for Game 3 could be a key factor in the series.
