Sports federations and clubs in Turkey commemorated the 19th May Atatürk Commemoration, Youth and Sports Day with messages of celebration. Turkey Football Federation (TFF) President İbrahim Ethem Hacıosmanoğlu released a message on the federation's website, highlighting the significance of 19 May as the first step of the War of Independence, symbolizing the rebirth of a nation that never submits to captivity.
“Our beloved nation, which sacrificed its lives for the independence and future of our country, led by the founder of the Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, crowned the independence fire lit in Samsun with victory. Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk announced the independence struggle’s symbol, 19 May, as Youth and Sports Day, demonstrating confidence in the future and hope of our youth. On this significant day, I pay my respects and gratitude to Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades and the sacred martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country. I celebrate the 19th May Atatürk Commemoration, Youth and Sports Day with my nation and Turkish youth,” said Hacıosmanoğlu.
TURKEY BASKETBALL FEDERATION PRESIDENT HİDAYET TÜRKOĞLU
Türkiye Basketbol Federasyonu (TBF) President Hidayet Türkoğlu released a celebratory message on the federation's website. He emphasized that the torch of independence lit by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in 1919 continues to burn with the common belief and determination of the nation.
“19th May is not only the beginning of a liberation struggle but also the strongest message of faith, hope, and the future to youth. Our young people, who are the guarantee of the Republic, are shaping our future with their determination to take our country further in science, art, sports, and every aspect of life,” he stated.
“The competitive spirit shown by young athletes participating in the Ülker Youth Basketball League at the Turkcell Basketball Development Center is a reflection of the vision entrusted to youth on 19th May. TBF Basketball Sports School, our infrastructure organizations, and our projects that connect young people to sports aim not only to produce successful athletes but also to cultivate conscious individuals who bring value to their country. The Turkey Handball Federation released a video message, stating, “A journey that began with hope in 1919... Today, the same belief, determination, and courage are embodied in handball halls. The men's 18-under national team, which qualified for the European Championship after 20 years, and the women's 20-under national team, which secured a ticket to the World Championship after 25 years, continue with determination.
