While big cities often struggle with inadequate sports facilities and clean air, a small village nestled in the heart of the Rhodope Mountains is offering a valuable lesson in vision and hospitality. Davidovo, a municipality in Banite, has transformed into the arena for the 27th National Field Hockey Championship, organized by the Bulgarian Federation of Field Hockey in collaboration with the local administration, showcasing over 100 participants from across the country.
The championship's success is the result of a targeted strategy by the local authorities. In the last two and a half years, Banite municipality has invested significantly in constructing a modern sports field that meets all national and European standards. The result is a modern field situated amid ancient forests, where the dynamism of sports meets the tranquility of the mountains.
"All the effort has paid off now that we have realized this wonderful facility," shared the municipal leadership, represented by the mayor of Banite municipality, Pavlin Belchev.
The ambition doesn't stop there. The next big step is the construction of a multifunctional sports hall, which will complete the cycle and allow for the hosting of camps and competitions throughout the winter season.
The formula for success in Banite is a combination of infrastructure and natural resources. The region is world-renowned for its mineral water, which is an invaluable asset for the recovery of athletes after intense training, matches, and camps.
The air in Banite is therapeutic, and the high altitude naturally stimulates the endurance of young athletes. Add to that the authentic Rhodope cuisine, prepared with clean local ingredients, and Davidovo and Banite stand out as the ideal place not only for competitions but also for high-altitude training camps.
Hosting over 100 children and eight teams from across the country is a serious logistical challenge, which the local community has managed flawlessly. This event is a clear signal to sports federations and clubs that the Rhodopes and Banite are ready for big sports.
The local administration in Banite demonstrates that sports tourism is one of the sharpest tools for reviving small communities. By creating conditions for young talents, the municipality not only promotes the region but also nurtures health and discipline in the next generation.
The national field hockey championship in Davidovo is more than just a tournament – it is proof that when nature and professionalism join hands, there are no boundaries to success. And for all visiting teams, the experience in the Rhodopes leaves an unforgettable memory of clean air, fair play, and genuine Rhodope hospitality.
