Sergen Yalçın's second era at Beşiktaş officially ended on May 19, 2026, after a critical meeting with the club's leadership. The club finished fourth in the Süper Lig, trailing leader Galatasaray by 17 points, following their exit from the Ziraat Türkiye Kupası in the semi-finals. Despite the resignation of several executives and the insistence of the president, Serdal Adalı, to continue Yalçın's tenure, a pivotal meeting was held in Ümraniye.

The meeting, attended by President Adalı, Vice President Murat Kılıç, and Melih Aydoğdu from the Football Committee, aimed to plan for the new season. Yalçın requested the transfer of five players, including a goalkeeper, a left-back, a midfielder, a forward, and a defender, and also insisted on a smaller pre-season training camp and the exclusion of loan players from pre-season activities. However, these demands were not met, leading to his resignation following a protest from the stands during a match against Konyaspor in the cup.

The final straw was a silent protest by the fans during a match against Trabzonspor, where they turned their backs on the team. Yalçın said, "I cannot accept the fans turning their backs on me." In his farewell speech, he thanked the club and its supporters, saying, "There is no fault on your part. I thank the entire management and all supporters, whether they supported me or not."

Players Vaclav Cerny and El Bilal Toure also paid tribute to Yalçın. Cerny thanked him for everything and wished him success in the future, while Toure expressed gratitude for the legendary moments and wished him divine protection.
