Serbian water polo is going through one of its toughest periods in recent decades, with legendary player Filip Filipović recently speaking out about the chaos plaguing the sport. Following the resignation of coach Uroš Stevanović and the support letters sent by 11 players to the Serbian Water Polo Federation, the situation has escalated further. The Federation's response, which claims that seven of the signatories are no longer national team representatives, has only added fuel to the fire.

In an interview with the podcast "Miljanov Korner," the celebrated captain of the Serbian national team clearly stated that the problem has been present for years. "If any sport can overcome this crisis, it’s us. I can’t say with certainty when or if we will, but I believe and assert responsibly that the problem in water polo, not just today but for years, lies primarily in people."

Filipović is particularly troubled by the fact that Serbian water polo has been unable to find a common language and a long-term strategy. "I can’t understand why we can’t sit down and create a serious plan that rises above the interests of individual clubs, regardless of their names," he emphasized.

The situation is not only alarming due to results but also because of the atmosphere within the sport. "Players cannot remain immune to all this, which is a clear signal that something major is wrong. We shouldn’t deceive ourselves; the crisis exists. It didn’t start now, it’s been brewing for a long time."
