Serbian tennis sensation Ognjen Milić, just 18 years old, has continued his impressive run at the Challenger tournament in Bengaluru, India. He secured a place in the quarterfinals by defeating Sidath Ravantha 6:3, 6:1 in just 67 minutes.
Milić's victory not only propels him into the top eight players at this Challenger event but also improves his ATP ranking by 18 positions. He is expected to rise to at least 360th place on the global rankings from next Monday.
If he continues to win, his ranking could improve even further, potentially placing him among the top 350 players in the world. While his first two opponents in the tournament have been relatively easy matches, his upcoming quarterfinal will be against a better-ranked player, Haymes Stuart, a Brit who began the week at 317th in the ATP rankings and is a three-time tournament winner.
Milić’s potential semifinal and final opponents include experienced players such as Ilya Ivashka from Belarus and Juan Alejandro Hernandez from Mexico. Although he has not yet won a Challenger title, securing one in Bengaluru could see him climb to the top 300 in the global rankings.
This is huge for Serbian tennis! Ognjen, keep the momentum and take that Challenger title. Can he become the next big thing in tennis? Let's hope so!
