Serbian Olympic Committee (SOC) President Dejan Tomašević hosted Kazakh Olympic Committee President and World Boxing leader Gennady Golovkin today in SOC headquarters. The main topics discussed were strengthening cooperation between the two Olympic committees, enhancing international collaboration, and bolstering the position of Serbian boxing on the global sports scene.

According to the press release, the meeting was attended by Sports Minister Zoran Gajić, SOC General Secretary Dejan Bojović, Serbian Boxing Federation President Nenad Borovčanin, European Boxing Federation President Lars Bovil, and World Boxing Federation General Secretary Tom Dielen.

The two Olympic committees plan to continue supporting each other in matters significant to the Olympic movement, athletes, and sports organizations, with the readiness to translate good cooperation into concrete initiatives.

The visit of legendary Kazakh boxer Gennady Golovkin to Serbia is highlighted as one of the most significant events for domestic boxing in recent years. A former multiple world champion in the middleweight category and one of the most recognizable figures in modern boxing, Golovkin now serves as President of the Kazakh Olympic Committee and World Boxing, an organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee and playing an increasingly significant role in international Olympic boxing.

This is Golovkin's first visit to Serbia and the region since assuming his leadership role in the World Boxing Federation, making it even more significant.

During the meeting, discussions focused on opportunities to enhance cooperation between Serbian sports institutions and international boxing organizations, as well as future projects that could further contribute to the development of boxing in Serbia.

Golovkin's amateur career included a gold medal from the 2003 World Championships and a silver medal from the 2004 Athens Olympics for Kazakhstan. In professional boxing, he left a profound mark from 2006 to 2022.

"Golovkin's visit to Serbia is a clear sign of the quality of Serbian boxing, but it is also significant for younger generations of athletes, who will have the opportunity to meet one of the greatest boxers of the modern era and a person whose experience and authority have a significant impact on the future of Olympic boxing. The visit of the world boxing delegation to Serbia is a great recognition for our sport and confirmation of the reputation Serbia has on the international sports scene. SOC President Dejan Tomašević and Minister Zoran Gajić emphasized that the Olympic Committee and Ministry of Sports will always keep their doors open for any form of cooperation," the press release states.

The heads of the Serbian and Kazakh Olympic Committees concluded that there is enormous potential for joint action that will significantly contribute to the development of the Olympic movement in both countries in the future.
