Ivan Garaj, a Serbian thrower competing in shot put and discus, has been suspended for three months for cocaine use. The suspension was confirmed on the websites of the Serbian Athletics Federation (SAS) and the Anti-Doping Agency of Serbia (ADAS).
Garaj admitted to consuming cocaine for recreational purposes, as he ingested five doses of cocaine with 12 beers on February 23, 2026. This admission was corroborated by a witness present at the time of the incident.
Garaj has had a successful career, achieving notable results both domestically and internationally. He won a bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade and was the vice-champion of the Serbian Cup in Kruševac last year. In 2023, he secured a gold medal at the Vojvodina Championships, and in 2015, he represented Serbia at the Balkan Championships in Pitești, Romania.
This is a huge blow to Ivan's career, and it's a shame he let one mistake ruin all his hard work. But does this reflect a larger issue in the sport? What do you think, fellow fans?
