Scaraballo: We Will Manage Without Garuba in Euroleague Final
Real Madrid's head coach Sergio Scaraballo expressed his happiness after leading the club to the Euroleague final, where they will face Olympiacos. The "Whites" secured a decisive 105-90 victory over Valencia, setting the stage for their final showdown.
"I am very happy to have reached the final. We played against an excellent team that did not give up until the very end. I am extremely proud of my players," Scaraballo commented. "It is incredible. In January, we were not even in the top 7 or 8, and now we are in the final. Congratulations to Valencia. Now is the time to celebrate, even with caution, as we face a very strong opponent with their own fans here."
Asked about center Usman Garuba's injury, Scaraballo was clear: "I can't say anything before the medical examinations, but he is 100% out for the week."
Fundación Campazzo: We Must Focus for 40 Minutes Against Olympiacos
"We had to completely reinvent our game without Walter Tavares. Our team had an identity built around Tavares or Alex Len. Clearly, we had to seek a different idea. I was concerned about defense and rebounding. Only when we took control of rebounding in the third quarter did we manage to build a significant lead against a team that kept coming back into the game. It's a huge effort to get 17 more rebounds than Valencia," Scaraballo explained.
"We have had no doubts, nor have those who understand basketball. We need to listen to the opinions of experts and our own judgment. Since November, we have been a good team. We have no internal conflicts. We are happy about the team's growth, even though it's sad to see three teammates on the bench unable to help. From tomorrow, there is only room for effort, for the game plan, for what we can do... We will think about that from tonight," the coach added.
Mario Hezonja: Olympiacos Is the Best Team This Season, a Huge Match Next Week
"This is a team with players of character. We have united with basketball players who each take on their role. I strongly believe in their mindset and their ability to understand the game and compete. They believe in what we offer them, and that is the result. The two blows we have taken have been heavy. The one with Tavares was heavy, then with Len after he made an excellent series against Apoel. We reacted. Now it happened with Garuba, but I believe we will react again. They can wear us down physically, but in terms of character, we will be there," Scaraballo emphasized.
Finally, he was asked about the Olympiacos fans who applauded Garuba's injury. "I didn't hear them. Full respect to the fans. Great atmosphere, great arena. It is an honor to be here," the Italian coach responded.
