Sabalenka Confident as She Heads to Roland Garros
Belarusian tennis player and current WTA world No. 1 Arina Sabalenka is preparing for her Roland Garros campaign. Following a less successful performance in Rome and an earlier quarterfinal exit in Madrid, Sabalenka acknowledged that she had not been in the best condition. "At the start of the clay season, I was struggling physically, but now I feel 100%. We have recovered well, focusing on recovery and ensuring that I am fit and ready to play. As I said, I am physically prepared now," Sabalenka began her press conference. On the Player Boycott at Roland Garros
Sabalenka was also asked about the announced player boycott and reduced media communication, initiated by top players due to the French government's decision to give players a smaller portion of the financial pie. "People, I think the point here isn’t about me. It’s about lower-ranked players who are suffering, and yes, it’s not easy to live in this tennis world with the percentage we earn. As the world No. 1, I feel like I have to fight for these players, for players at a lower level, for players returning from injuries, for the next generation. Our point is quite clear and fair to everyone. That’s what matters to us." When asked about the progress of the plan, Sabalenka reiterated her commitment. "I stand by my words. We wanted to do this in a respectful way from the start, and you know how much we respect and value you. It’s not your decision, it’s not about you," she added. Sabalenka's comments come after a recent altercation with Novak Djokovic, adding another layer of complexity to the upcoming tournament.(Telegraf.rs)
