Universitatea Craiova's players and staff are continuing their celebrations after clinching the Romanian title and Cup! Patron Mihai Rotaru waited for the team bus on the sidewalk. After presenting the trophies in Mihai Viteazul Square in Craiova, the team made an honor tour of the city. Standing on the sidewalk, Mihai Rotaru narrowly avoided a champagne shower from the players.
Rotaru, who was vocal throughout the season, has taken a secondary role now. After the team's spectacular 5-0 victory over U Cluj, he declined interviews, insisting the players and staff should be in the spotlight.
The businessman preferred to stand on the sidewalk like any other fan. As the convertible bus passed by and the players wanted to give him a champagne shower, he stepped back.
The convertible bus left the barracks at 7:00 PM, taking the route of Ilie Balaci Boulevard, Ştirbei Vodă Boulevard, Matei Basarab Street, Bibescu Street, Brestei Street, București Avenue, and A I Cuza Street, ending at Mihai Viteazul Square.
With their title win, Universitatea Craiova will compete in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, where they will be a group seed. Potential opponents include Levski Sofia, Sabah FK, Kauno Zalgiris, Floriana, Vardar Skopje, Drita, Víkingur Reykjavík, or Iberia 1999.
The competition will intensify in the second qualifying round, where Universitatea Craiova may face Steaua Roșie Belgrad, Dinamo Zagreb, Slovan Bratislava, or Olympiacos. In the third round, they could face Lyon, Sparta Prague, or Sporting, with potential playoff opponents including AEK Athens or Celtic Glasgow.
Rotaru is optimistic that no players will leave before the qualifiers starting on July 7th, but notes that there are solutions for replacing players. "The moment with AEK Athens, the strength the group showed. We knew we would be champions, we knew how to manage that moment. The group showed fantastic strength. There are people managing the transfer campaign. We have been preparing solutions for each position for 3-4 months. If we can manage this moment well, we will move up. I hope we manage it well," Rotaru told Digi Sport.
