Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been "selfish" and should be dropped from the squad for the Reds' final match of the season against Brentford at Anfield, says former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

Salah recently criticized the team's style of play following a 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa. He said that Liverpool must return to being a "heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear." In a social media post, Salah stated that this identity should not be negotiable and that everyone who joins the club should adapt to it. This has been seen as a direct criticism of current manager Arne Slot.

The 33-year-old Egypt international, who has scored 257 goals and helped the club to six major trophies in nine years, will leave Liverpool at the end of the season. However, Rooney believes that Salah's comments are inappropriate, especially as his last match with the club approaches.

"I find it sad at the end of what he's done and what he's achieved at Liverpool," Rooney told the Wayne Rooney Show. "It's not the point for him to come out and aim another dig at Slot."

Rooney argues that Salah's comments are not only disrespectful to Slot but also harmful to his teammates and the club's legacy. "Mo Salah knows exactly what he's doing," Rooney added. "That's your manager. You can't publicly disrespect him twice the way he has and get away with it."

Liverpool's disappointing title defense has put pressure on Slot, with fans growing increasingly frustrated. Rooney acknowledges that while Salah deserves a good send-off, his recent comments make it difficult to justify his inclusion in the final match.

"Of course he deserves a good send off but does he deserve it just for this? It's the second time he's done it. It's just a shame to see one of the great icons of Premier League players leave the Premier League probably in this situation."
