Romanian coach Răzvan Lucescu (57), currently leading PAOK Thessaloniki, is a coveted name among European clubs. Beşiktaş, a prominent Turkish club, has recently announced that Lucescu is a leading contender for their head coach position. The club finished the season in fourth place in the Turkish league.
Lucescu's recent season with PAOK Thessaloniki has been underwhelming, leading to speculation about his departure. Despite missing out on the UEFA Champions League qualification and the Greek Cup, Lucescu remains in high demand.
Beşiktaş is reportedly interested in Lucescu's services. According to Fotomac, the Romanian coach is among the shortlisted candidates for the club’s vacant managerial role. Other names in contention include German coach Dino Toppmöller, recently dismissed from Eintracht Frankfurt, and Austrian coach Oliver Glasner, who will conclude his contract with Crystal Palace at the end of the season.
Turkish coaches Senol Gunes, who recently left Trabzonspor, and Nuri Şahin, currently managing Istanbul Başakşehir, are also on the club’s radar.
In the 2002-2003 season, Răzvan Lucescu's father, Mircea Lucescu, led Beşiktaş to the Turkish league title. Beşiktaş executives are clearly unhappy with the team's recent performance, which saw them end the season in fourth place, 17 points behind the champions Galatasaray. This will result in Beşiktaş playing in the UEFA Conference League next season.
The underwhelming results have also impacted the future of former Beşiktaş coach Sergen Yalçin, who was dismissed shortly after the end of the season despite still having a year left on his contract.
