Răzvan Lucescu (57 years old), the current coach of PAOK Thessaloniki, pays tribute to the memory of his late father, Mircea Lucescu, at every opportunity. The legendary coach passed away on April 7, 2026, during Holy Week, losing his most important battle, that with health problems. "Il Luce" was laid to rest at the Emergency University Hospital in the Capital at the age of 80. The former great tactician was buried with military honors on Friday, April 10, at Bellu Cemetery in Bucharest.

Just four hours earlier, priest Florin Danu posted an extraordinary episode on his personal Facebook page. He noted a few words about a remarkable gesture made by "Il Luce's" son.

Răzvan Lucescu visited the social canteen at the "Saint Hierarch Nectarie" Center, where he honored his father's memory. The PAOK Thessaloniki coach provided over 100 meals to children and seniors, personally serving the food. He talked to the individuals, demonstrating that humanity is not entirely lost. Based on this gesture, priest Florin Danu expressed gratitude to the coach.

A Heartfelt Gesture

"Today (note – Friday, May 22), at the social canteen of the 'Saint Hierarch Nectarie' Center, the Lucescu family honored the memory of Mr. Lucescu and provided over 100 meals to children and seniors in our community.

The gesture that deeply impressed us was that Mr. Răzvan Lucescu not only attended the event but personally served the children and beneficiaries of our center, standing close to people with great discretion and heartfelt warmth.

In a world where many choose to help from a distance, there are people who come, look into a child’s eyes, have a word with an elderly person, and offer not only a warm meal but also respect, attention, and humanity. We thank you for your love, your kindness, and for the beautiful example given to all today.

May God accept the tribute and bless this family!" was the message conveyed by Florin Danu.

Continuing the Legacy

The table was set with a variety of dishes. Among other dishes, the children and seniors enjoyed fish soup and sweet cake.

In tough times, Răzvan Lucescu shows social commitment. One thing is undeniable: from up above, Mircea Lucescu looks proudly at his son.
