Rapid, currently in 5th place in Superliga, is strengthening its squad for the next season. Among the new signings is midfielder Omar El Sawy, 22, who returns to Giulești after a loan spell at U Cluj.
The midfielder is a favorite of Daniel Pancu, 48, who is rumored to be the potential new coach at Rapid and was previously the coach of the U21 national team, where El Sawy has played twice.
Financed by Dan Șucu, Rapid is bolstering its roster for the upcoming season, with El Sawy's return being the first move. El Sawy joined Rapid in 2023 from Csikszereda for €400,000 and was loaned to Sepsi from September 2024 to June 2025.
During his loan at U Cluj, El Sawy played 26 matches (17 as a starter), scoring one goal and providing three key assists. His market value is currently €550,000, a career high.
El Sawy has played for all junior national teams, including the U21 team, where Daniel Pancu was the coach until last year. If Pancu becomes the new Rapid coach, it could benefit the young player.
El Sawy’s return to Rapid could provide him with a fresh start, as he played 12 matches for the team in Giulești previously. At 22, he will also be eligible for the U21 rule imposed by the FRF in the next season.
U Cluj ends their season with a home game following two consecutive losses against the team from Universitatea Craiova, where trophy aspirations were on the line.
The Romanian Cup was lost in a dramatic match decided by penalties after 120 minutes of scoreless play. U Cluj also suffered a 0-5 defeat in a decisive match. The last two games are CFR Cluj - FC Argeș and Rapid - Universitatea Craiova.
Pancu's return to Rapid would be a game-changer. This kid, El Sawy, has shown potential with the right guidance. Can he lead Rapid to new heights, or will he falter under the pressure? Let's see how this unfolds!
