The Dream vs. The Price Tag

The story of Ștefan Târnovanu is one of desire colliding with reality. The 26-year-old goalkeeper has been dreaming of a move abroad since last season, and now the verdict is in from his former mentor. Mirel Rădoi, now at the helm of Gaziantep in Turkey, has confirmed a strong interest in reuniting with the experienced shot-stopper. But here is the twist that stops the play dead in its tracks: the price. Gigi Becali, the 67-year-old owner of FCSB, remains unmoved. His demand sits firmly at €5 million, a figure that effectively shuts the door on any negotiation for a Turkish side looking to balance the books.

A Familiar Face, A Financial Fortress

Rădoi, 45, actually brought Târnovanu back into the starting lineup when he arrived at FCSB. He even considered taking him to Gaziantep, but the financials simply did not add up. While officials at the Turkish club are enthusiastic about the goalkeeper who has spent the last six years at FCSB, the wallet is the final say. Târnovanu’s time at the red-and-blues has been turbulent. Repeated errors this season saw him fall out of favor with the patron, spending significant time on the bench behind 19-year-old Matei Popa. Despite the dip in form, Rădoi believes in the player's quality, stating, "No matter how much we want a goalkeeper like Fane right now, we cannot take him."

Shuffling the Deck at FCSB

The atmosphere at FCSB is shifting. After a disastrous season, the club is preparing for major roster changes. Many key players are expected to hit the transfer list, and the mood has changed from previous seasons where Becali blocked every exit. Mihai Stoica, speaking to Prima Sport, signaled a new openness: "Târnovanu can leave if there is an offer from abroad. The important thing is that the players who leave, and there are many, are replaced by players of value."

Târnovanu was once a step away from moving to Universitatea Craiova after Isenko's injury, but a promise to Rădoi kept him at FCSB. Meanwhile, Mihai Rotaru recently announced interest in the veteran keeper, shortly after discussing an offer for U Cluj goalkeeper Edvinas Gertmonas. The market is moving, but for Târnovanu, the €5 million wall remains the highest hurdle.
