Former Bosnia and Herzegovina representative and one of the best midfielders from the Balkan region in the last decade, Rade Krunić, opened up in the podcast "Super Indirektno" about why he ended up playing for Bosnia and Herzegovina despite his desire to play for Serbia.

Krunić, who previously played for clubs in Serbia such as Borac Čačak and Donji Srem, explained that there was an idea to include him in Serbia's "B" team, but these promises from the Serbian Football Association never materialized.

"At the time, they were forming a special team, not the U-21, but a 'B' team consisting of players from the domestic league and those playing abroad. There was a rumor that I would be part of this team because I had not been called up by the Serbian team before. I attended two training camps, but despite the promises, no one called me again," Krunić began.

Born in Foča, Krunić revealed that he had turned down several calls from Bosnia and Herzegovina due to his hope of being called up by Serbia.

"I had already declined two or three call-ups for the youth team of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Eventually, I didn't have the time anymore and decided to go with Bosnia. I don't think that was a wrong decision because I am from Bosnia and it's normal," the experienced midfielder explained.

In response to a direct question about whether he would have chosen Serbia over Bosnia and Herzegovina if the "B" team call had come through, Krunić gave a candid answer that is likely to spark debate.

"Honestly, I probably would have played for Serbia. At that time, I was playing there, and I naturally feel Serbian. If they had called me for that 'B' team, I wouldn't have thought twice about Bosnia," Krunić concluded.

Rade Krunić has left a significant mark in his career, particularly in Italy, where he played for Empoli and Milan, winning the Scudetto. He has also made over 30 appearances for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team. He is now a member of Red Star Belgrade.
