Solemn Liturgy at Prizren Seminary
The Prizren Orthodox Seminary, dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius, marked its patronal feast day with a solemn celebration. The central event was a Holy Liturgy held at the Church of St. George, led by Metropolitan Teodosije of Raš-Prizren. The service was attended by a large congregation of faithful, underscoring the enduring spiritual life in the region despite ongoing political complexities.
Metropolitan Teodosije was assisted by Bishop Kirilo of Buenos Aires and South Central America, as well as abbots from the monasteries of the Holy Archangels and Visoki Dečani. Clergy from multiple dioceses of the Serbian Orthodox Church also participated, highlighting the broad ecclesiastical support for the seminary. The gathering served not only as a religious observance but also as a reaffirmation of community ties among Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija.
Messages of Spiritual Freedom
Following the traditional cutting of the slavski kolač (festive bread), Metropolitan Teodosije addressed the crowd, focusing on the spiritual significance of maintaining a Serbian presence in Kosovo and Metohija. He spoke of witnessing Christ through their very existence in these lands, describing their faith as invincible regardless of external pressures.
“We have gathered today to witness Christ crucified and risen,” Teodosije said. “With our life and survival in these spaces, we witness the invincible faith of Christ.” He emphasized a profound connection to the land, stating that nowhere is better than Kosovo and Metohija, likening their stay to a child in the mother’s womb—safe and complete.
The Metropolitan also touched upon the concept of inner freedom. He acknowledged the external pressures faced by the community but argued that true liberty comes from within. “God has given us freedom,” he explained. “The most important freedom, which is internal. We have freed ourselves from within, and that is the freedom in Christ when we do not serve people, but serve God and bow only to Him.”
A Key Educational Institution
The celebration of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Prizren traditionally draws large numbers of believers. The seminary stands as one of the most significant spiritual and educational institutions of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo and Metohija. Its continued operation is viewed by supporters as a vital pillar of cultural and religious preservation in the area.
