The Rose as a National Symbol
President Iliana Yotova declared that the oil rose stands as Bulgaria’s most beautiful emblem during her address at the 123rd Rose Festival in Kazanlak. The head of state attended the festive parade celebrating the Rose Queen, marking the conclusion of the annual event that has become synonymous with the region's identity. Yotova emphasized the profound significance of the Rose Valley not just as an agricultural zone, but as a defining symbol of the nation.
Thanking the local community for establishing Kazanlak as the world capital of roses, Yotova expressed confidence that visitor numbers from both domestic and international audiences would continue to rise. She paid tribute to generations of rose growers, entrepreneurs, and civic leaders who have been instrumental in securing global fame for Bulgarian rose oil. "Today we must express our immense respect for those who started this tradition, those who celebrated the Kazanlak rose at major international exhibitions, and those who brought golden glory to Bulgaria," she stated.
Heritage and Community Responsibility
The President recalled that the labor of countless Bulgarians transformed rose oil into a product known worldwide as the "liquid gold of Bulgaria." Her speech also highlighted the social responsibility of those who developed the industry over the decades. Yotova noted that many of these pioneers used their success to build hospitals, cultural centers, and schools, investing in the future of the country and its youth.
She reiterated that people remain the country's greatest wealth. "The other greatest wealth is the people of this land, the people of Bulgaria. They know well how much care, hard work, and sleepless nights are required for the Rose Valley to be a symbol of Bulgaria today," Yotova said. She thanked the residents of Kazanlak for their role in cementing the town's status as a globally recognized center for rose cultivation.
Continuing a Century-Old Tradition
Yotova described the current season as a moment where nature opened its arms to nurture the fragrant rose, calling it the most beautiful emblem of the nation. She thanked the thousands of guests who arrived for the festival, as well as the hosts in Kazanlak for their hospitality and efforts in preserving the tradition. According to the President, the Rose Festival remains one of the most recognizable Bulgarian events, presenting the country to the world for over a century. This year's edition continues a tradition spanning more than 120 years.
Among the official guests at the parade were Kazanlak Mayor Galina Stoyanova, Stara Zagora Metropolitan Dr. Ciprian, Deputy Tourism Minister Mariela Modeva, and State Administrator Prof. Dr. Kaloyan Damyanov. The event also saw the presence of municipal councilors, delegates from sister cities, and other local officials. In her closing remarks, Yotova wished health and success to the town's residents and urged young people to continue protecting and developing the traditions associated with rose production.
