The British press, notably The Sun, has reported that Pep Guardiola (55) will leave Manchester City, with no turning back. Despite Guardiola's enigmatic statements following the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, which mathematically cost City the Premier League title, the decision is final: Guardiola will not extend his contract, set to expire in June 2027, and will leave Etihad this summer.

According to the British press, City players were informed of the decision directly by Guardiola through multiple phone calls. On May 18, the English press announced that Pep Guardiola would depart Manchester City after 10 years, a decision already made based on information from sources.

The news came just a day before Bournemouth-Manchester City's 1-1 draw, which mathematically ended City's Premier League title hopes.

At the post-match press conference, Guardiola appeared visibly irritated but suggested that his adventure at Etihad might continue, stating that it all depends on his superiors since he is willing to see the contract through to its June 2027 expiration.

However, according to sources at The Sun, Guardiola had a nervous breakdown on May 18 when he learned that news of his departure had hit the press. To avoid making the players feel betrayed, Guardiola reportedly called several key players late at night to confirm he would be leaving in the summer.

“Pep was very angry about the timing, which coincided with the match. He called the players late at night and confirmed he would leave. He apologized for the way the news broke,” a source told The Sun.

The players were reportedly shocked, as they were told on Saturday that Guardiola would remain. This likely affected their performance, leading to the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth and Arsenal securing the Premier League title after a 22-year wait.

Guardiola signed with Manchester City in July 2016 and has become the most successful manager in the club’s history over the past decade. He has won City 20 trophies, including six Premier League titles and one Champions League.

“I am the happiest man on the planet to be at this club. This club is simply extraordinary. For now, the season is over for us, we want to reach the final game together with our fans, and I know they will be with us. Over the 10 seasons, they have been with us in so many moments, and that is what we need to do until the end,” Guardiola said, among other comments, after the draw with Bournemouth.

In the final match of the season on May 24, Manchester City will face Aston Villa. This is likely to be Guardiola’s final game at Etihad.
