The Partizan squad will be hosting Čukarički at Banovo Brdo this Sunday at 4:00 PM in what will be the penultimate round of the Serbian Superliga playoff phase.
The Black-Whites are in a fierce battle with Vojvodina for the second position, and ahead of their match against Brđani, Partizan’s coach from Humski, Srđan Blagojević, addressed the media.
"We are approaching the final stretch of the championship, with only two more rounds to go, and four training sessions remaining before the end. Unfortunately, we don't have everything in our hands due to the previous round's results, where we drew with OFK Beograd, while Vojvodina defeated Čukarički. This has shifted the situation, and we are now one point behind Vojvodina. Nonetheless, we are not giving up; we have great ambitions in this battle. Unfortunately, everything doesn't depend on us; we must await the results from other matches. The first and most essential condition for any potential change in the situation is our good performance and results in the last two rounds. Considering the current reality, Partizan is seen as having slim chances in this battle, but we are determined to fight until the end and take every opportunity."
Regarding the upcoming match, Blagojević added, "We expect a very tough game. Looking back at our last two encounters there, where we lost 4:1, and the last match of the regular season ended 0:0, despite having more players for most of the game, we couldn't score. This 0:0 result slightly hindered our efforts in the battle. However, we have prepared well this week, analyzed Čukarički's team, and we are highly motivated to give our best."
Blagojević also touched on the timing of the Vojvodina-OFK Beograd match. "It’s unusual. I believe all games should be played according to the schedule. I have experience from other countries and previous seasons where the last two rounds are played simultaneously, especially those that decide the standings. Regardless, as a coach, I can't influence this, so I won’t dwell on it. The focus will be on our performance tomorrow at Banovo Brdo."
He also noted the recent match against Čukarički, where Partizan lost 4:1, and the recent 0:0 draw, which brought new challenges. "I expect a younger Čukarički team now, as they lack competitive ambitions, not fighting for survival or Europe. The young team will likely be motivated, especially playing against Partizan. So, I don’t expect it to be easy."
Blagojević's honesty is refreshing, but the pressure's on Partizan to turn things around. With two crucial matches left, can they pull off the win or is it all out of their hands now? Let's see if they can make a comeback or if it's all just talk.
