After Universitatea Craiova clinched the title in Bănești, the Oltenians have continued to revel in their euphoria, reluctant to return to reality. In schools, students combined their compulsory uniforms with the university's jerseys. Many children missed classes after staying up late to watch the championship game, while others attended classes dressed in team jerseys.
Despite not being an official holiday in Bănești, many supporters were unable to attend work after the prolonged celebrations. The city remains in a festive mood, with nightly celebrations continuing through the neighborhoods, following the victory parade of tens of thousands of fans two days after the 5-0 win over Universitatea Cluj.
For many fans of Universitatea Craiova, this is the first title they can celebrate or even remember, a sentiment poignantly expressed in a message displayed on a cemetery fence in Bănești. "Now we know what you've lived through... SCIENCE CHAMPIONS!" the message reads.
The photograph was posted by Peluza Nord Craiova, a fan page. "SCIENCE CHAMPIONS!" is a feeling that every generation and every young Craiovan and Oltenian should experience... Decades of suffering are slowly healing. The stories with which the youngest among us grew up are now being lived by them. The dream has become reality, our sacrifices were not in vain...," the Oltenian ultra fans wrote on the university's official Facebook page.
In 1987, after Diego Maradona led Napoli to its first scudetto, Neapolitan fans wrote on the walls of a cemetery, "This is what you've missed!" dedicated to generations of Neapolitans who waited decades for the title to be won under Vesuvius.
