The official anthem for the World Down Syndrome Championship, scheduled to take place in Sofia from June 13 to 19, 2026, now has its own video. The project, titled "YOU ARE PART OF US," was unveiled with an emotionally charged video that carries a strong message of acceptance, support, and self-empowerment.
Behind the Anthem
The anthem is performed by some of the most beloved Bulgarian artists, including Krisco, Maria Ilieva, and Lyubomir Kirov, who have joined forces to support athletes with Down syndrome. The music is composed by Alex Nushev, while the lyrics are written by Valya Nushev and Krisco.
The video concept was brought to life by Maria Ivanova and Ralitsa Ajdilarska, who also directed and produced the project. The anthem speaks of dreams, courage, and the belief that everyone deserves a place in the spotlight.
A Global Event
The World Down Syndrome Championship in Sofia will welcome over 400 athletes from 23 countries around the world. Competitions will take place across five sports: artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, tennis, table tennis, and athletics.
Among the ambassadors for the event are Olympic, world, and European weightlifting champion Carlos Nashar, and Bulgaria's best tennis player Grigor Dimitrov. The artistic and rhythmic gymnastics competitions will feature Olympic silver medalists Boriana Kaleyn and Krasimir Dunev.
The organizers from the Federation for Adapted Physical Activity, led by President Slav Petkov, emphasize that the event is not only a sporting forum but also an opportunity for society to show solidarity and support for individuals with Down syndrome.
