The King Speaks
They say the phone rings for legends, but for Željko Obradović, it has stayed silent. The most decorated coach in EuroLeague history has stepped into the spotlight once again, this time to shut down swirling rumors linking him to Barcelona. Speculations had him on the verge of taking the reins in Catalonia or perhaps returning to Panathinaikos, but Obradović’s message is clear: there are no negotiations.
In a candid interview with the Spanish portal Gigantes, the Serbian maestro dismantled the noise. "I think nothing about Barcelona's alleged interest," he stated bluntly. "They haven't spoken to me. Actually, no one has. I am completely out of the picture." The rumors, he insists, are just that—rumors. He refuses to be dragged into a narrative that does not exist.
Patience in Rome
Speaking from Rome, where he recently led a coaching seminar alongside Italian national team head Luca Banchi, Obradović outlined his timeline. He will not make a move until the current domestic seasons in Italy and Spain conclude. Around 400 coaches gathered to hear his wisdom, yet he offered no promises about his own return to the sidelines after a year-long hiatus. "I haven't even said I want to come back," he admitted. "I need to think carefully. After the leagues end, I will talk to my manager, who is also my friend. Then we will see."
A Special Memory
While the future remains a blank slate, the past holds deep meaning. Obradović reflected on the 1992 season, when he led Partizan to their first European title, playing home games in Fuenlabrada due to the war in the former Yugoslavia. "They called us Partizan from Fuenlabrada," he recalled with emotion. "We are eternal friends. That title is the most special one for me. Basketball started there with us." For now, the legend waits, watches, and lets the dust settle.
Obradović opet u centru pažnje a nema ništa konkretno lol. Barselona verovatno samo traži medijski prostor. Da li će se vratiti ili ne vremenom će se videti...
