Water polo players from Novi Beograd will face off against Brescia in their final match of the Champions League group stage at the SC "11. April" pool on Wednesday at 8:30 PM. Although Novi Beograd was eliminated from the Final Four after a loss to Barcelona in the previous round, the team is determined to end the season with a victory.
“This game doesn’t matter in terms of the results, but we still want to win this match against Brescia at all costs. We are highly motivated, especially playing at home, and we believe we have prepared well for this game,” said Novi Beograd’s goalkeeper Dušan Trtović. “Brescia has a young and promising team with several Italian national team players. They have shown this year that they are capable of competing with every team. We know what to expect from them since we are familiar with each other, so there won’t be any secrets. We want to avenge our loss in the first match in Italy, and a win would boost our confidence before the final series of the domestic league and the second match against Radnički.”
Trtović emphasized Brescia’s strong transition play: “They swim well and play a very good pressing game. We need to slow down the match to our rhythm, focus on positional attacks, and minimize technical errors as much as possible. We lost ground in the transition in the first match, and they used it to their advantage in counter-attacks. If we are focused enough in this segment, our quality should come through, and success will not elude us.”
In another match of the Champions League quarterfinal group A, also on Wednesday at 8:30 PM, Olimpiakos will face Barcelona, both already qualified for the Final Four in Malta.
Novi Beograd, this was a season to forget, but a win against Brescia would be a great way to end it. They need to focus and play their best, especially with the upcoming domestic league finals. Go Novi Beograd! Can they still surprise us?
