The tournament, which has a prize fund of €56,700, saw Nesterov, ranked fifth in the qualifiers, defeat the local representative Pierluigi Basilico 7-6(2), 7-6(5) after two hours on the court.
The match was exceptionally evenly matched. The first set did not offer any breaks and went to a tiebreaker, where Nesterov took the lead at 4-1 and won 7-2. In the second set, both players exchanged one break each, resulting in another tiebreaker where Nesterov took three of the next four points after a 4-4 tie to secure the match 7-5.
In the main draw, Nesterov will face another Italian, Federico Yancone. Additionally, Nesterov will participate in the doubles competition.
Another Bulgarian player, Ivan Ivanov, will also compete in the tournament. He is set to face the fifth seed, Franco Roncadel (Uruguay).
