McLaren's Brown: Formula 1 Loses Out to Nürburgring 24 Hours
McLaren's Chief Executive Officer Zak Brown has stated that Formula 1 must take lessons from the success of the Nürburgring 24 Hours. The legendary event saw its most successful edition this past weekend, with world champion Max Verstappen being the star of the show.
The Nürburgring 24 Hours recorded a record attendance of over 350,000 spectators on the North Loop, and TV ratings were also at an all-time high. Streaming on YouTube maintained between 35,000 and 50,000 viewers for over 24 hours from before the start to after the finish.
"As often happens, the Green Hell has produced many and varied stories, some truly heart-wrenching," said Brown, likely referring to Verstappen's drop from first place just three hours before the end due to a mechanical failure. "But the biggest loser from the Nürburgring 24 Hours is Formula 1."
Max's Teammate: You're Not Too Shabby in GT3 Cars
World Championship in Formula 1 has veered off course, while other series demonstrate what is needed to keep motorsports alive and thriving. FOM and FIA must create a compelling and attractive picture when developing the technical regulations for the next cycle starting in 2030. For the 2028 season, even more serious measures will be necessary to impact the distribution of power compared to the planned 2027 regulations.
